St Jean Montclar Venue

Saint Jean Montclar is a world class competition venue.  The month of June also benefits from very reliable XC conditions.  The flying arena around Saint Jean is in the southern French Alps so it tends to be much drier than sites to the north.  It is also very well protected from the Mistral winds that can plague sites further east such as Laragne. Indeed, together with Saint Vincent Les Forts just 3km from Saint Jean, this area is probably one of the most reliable flying venues in the French Alps.

Headquarters
The HQ will be based at the village hall in the centre of the village. Look for the signs on arrival to direct you into the headquarters. It is a very small village. You won't get lost.

Getting to launch
Launch is accessed by chairlift (fees included in the entrance fee) from the village centre, right next to the Naviter Open HQ.  The chairlift is a new high speed 4seater so you’ll be whisked from village centre to launch in a little over 5minutes.

Launch
The launch is located on the Plateau de la Chau.  It’s huge and generally big enough for all pilots to set up simultaneously! The launch faces from south west through north west and winds are very light.  Conditions tend to become good for thermalling from about 11am onwards.

Landing
The landing is a big flat grass field, five minutes walk from the village of Saint Jean. Winds here are generally light, but can also be quite thermic in the mid afternoon with the winds switching north-south.  Depending on expected conditions we might choose alternative landing fields.
