Tolmin Venue

Tolmin is a world class competition venue.  The month of June benefits from very reliable XC conditions.  The flying arena around Tolmin is in the Soca valley, within the Julian Alps, so it tends to be much drier than sites to the north.  It is also very well protected from the Northern winds that can plague sites further east. Indeed, aloong with our backup site Lijak, just 30 minutes south, this area is probably one of the most reliable flying venues in the Julian Alps and eastern Europe.

Headquarters
The HQ will be based at the Camp Gabrje campsite, where many of the competitiors will be staying. Look for the signs on arrival to direct you into the headquarters. It is a very small village. You won't get lost.

Getting to launch
Launch is accessed by minibus and we will be starting at the campsite, right next to the Naviter Open HQ. The minibusses are included in the competition fee and the ride to launch is on tarmac roads and take around 30 minutes.

Launch
The launch is located on the Kobala.  It’s huge and generally big enough for all pilots to set up simultaneously. The launch faces from west through east and winds are usually very light.  Conditions tend to become good for thermalling from about 12pm onwards.

Landing
The landing is a big flat grass field, at camp Gabrje. Winds here are generally light and easy to land in.  Depending on expected conditions we might choose alternative landing fields to make the tasks more interesting, but again you can expect these to be large, easy and grassy.
